What I do
I help out on a variety of scales from completely looking after the day to day running of the site, to just helping out on an ad-hoc basis. I can design and setup a site from scratch or I can walk you through the steps. I can help out on existing sites from something small like bug fixing or swapping an image to total redevelopment of the site. I am are currently involved in 66 websites either for individuals or businesses and have given advice on many more.
How much
My standard advertised rate for development and design work is £40.00 per hour. At present I am excluded from VAT registration so all of my hourly charges do not include VAT. In the future, if I have to include VAT then VAT will be added to my hourly rate and all customers will be advised before this takes effect.
I can also work on a fixed fee basis but only if the requirements specification is good enough so there is no ambiguity. I cannot guarantee to be able to offer you a fixed fee but can discuss at the consultation stage.
I do not charge for quotations so fill in the form on the contact page with as much detail as you can and I will give you a free quote. If I need more details I will get in touch.
Steps involved
If you need a new website or want your existing site redesigned then contact us using the contact page. I will get back to you at a convenient time so please let us know when it is best for you.
This is the consultation stage, which is usually initiated by telephone but can be by email if you prefer, I will discuss your requirements and the options that are available. I will usually need to clarify some details before I can provide you with a quote. I will not give you a quote until I have satisfied myself that I know what will be involved in the project.
Sometimes I might have to do a bit of research on any costs but generally I will come back to you within 48 hours with a quotation covering the basics and any options where you can decide if you want to include those as well. You can decline my quotation and pay nothing or you can decide to go ahead. Depending on the project, it is usual to pay 50% of the estimated fee in advance.
I will build your site or new design on my development servers and you will be able to see progress on a daily basis. I may contact you throughout the building process to ask for your opinion where choices were not made earlier.
Once the site has been completed to the specifications required and you are happy with it you must pay the remainder of my fees and I will move your site to your host.
Website changes
I understand that you may change your mind about things either during the process or after it so I will do my best to accommodate your changes without additional cost. If you spot something wrong during the website build or within 60 days of going live I will be happy to fix it for you at no additional cost as long as it is not a redesign. For instance, you might change your mind about the wording in a particular paragraph or change your phone number, these changes will be made for free but if you wanted to change the banner or move the menu bar then these would constitute redesign work and the process for ad-hoc work would apply.
Ad-hoc work
If you have a small piece of work, for instance a special offer banner, for us to do then we still put this together on my development servers and when you are happy with it I transfer the code/graphics to your host once you have made payment.
Just make a request in the same way as for a website project and I will give you a quote. Just like all quotes, there is no obligation to go ahead.
What can I expect to pay
- A 3 page basic website design will cost from £200.
- A 5 page basic website design will cost from £300.
- Additional basic pages will cost from £75.
- A simple database website design will cost from £400.
- A Flash website design will cost from £500.
- More complex websites will depend on how much programming is involved.
- There can also be additions to the above and I will quote these as optional extras that you may want or not.
- An ad-hoc small jobs start from £40.
What else do you do
I also offer other services such as web minding, which is looking after your website for you (updates, upgrades, changes, etc...) so you don't have to. Quite often this service goes hand-in-hand with a software purchase, for example, running a shopping cart.

Notes
- You can make payment via UK cheque, bank transfer or PayPal.
- I generally require access to your hosted files unless you prefer to do the transfer yourself but if this is the case I cannot provide support for the transfer and cannot provide the 60 day warranty for any subsequent changes.
- The working project files will always be available upon request if you need them for any purpose.
